Marks and Spencer Jam Doughnuts

Marks and Spencer Jam Doughnuts

We don’t spend all our time swanning around London markets and European cities in search of the best doughnuts; when I know I’m going to be meeting up with Anna, I try to find a doughnut which I can bring with me. This time it was Marks and Spencer at Waterloo. I had to choose between ring doughnuts, jam doughnuts and custard doughnuts. As we would also be seeing our parents for the bank holiday, and it was our Dad who introduced us to the joy of jam doughnuts, I plumped for one of these (he liked them). I’m not sure quite what the jam was – some sort of berry, maybe even an amalgamation of raspberry and strawberry (the website was no help…), but it was good. The proportion of filling to dough was a little inconsistent (the first doughnut was pretty disappointing but the following one was heaven..), while the dough was a touch heavy but pretty fresh-tasting for a supermarket doughnut. I’ll definitely have another when I’m next passing (every day – it’s on my daily commute…). Here’s the Good Housekeeping guide to the best jam doughnuts – looks like I’ll be heading to Tesco very soon!

I don’t think my photo does them any credit, despite the artfully-placed strawberries. It seems that it takes more than a pretty plate to show them off. On a side-note, flat-lays are a little beyond me at the moment too. I did my first one for Anne Bogel’s 12 days of bookstagram and it was a bit of a disaster – turns out arranging books in symmetrical lines on a couch with two pencils isn’t quite enough…
